I began practicing Bikram Yoga 27 years ago. I was a Nurse Midwife / Nurse Practitioner, but was on medical leave due to clinical depression.
A physician friend of mine dragged me to my first class in Portland.
While I was in the class, I thought I might die from the heat. However, it became so clear was so clear to me (after class!) that this series of postures was healing to all body systems. The nervous system, the organ systems, the lymph systems and energy systems are all aligned through this series.
After 2-3 months of practicing 3-4 times a week, I was able to return to work without any medication.
I have continued my practice since that time, went to Teacher Training in 2002, and returned to open a studio here in Vancouver, WA - so that Vancouver might have access to this healing system. I retired as a Nurse Practitioner in 2010, eventually coming to teach here at Hot Yoga NorthWest, for Mica.
My particular expertise is to share with you the physiological benefits of this series and encourage you to know that from the very beginning you benefit from these postures, as long as you try the best you can.
Yoga is a journey, not a destination. It is a practice for a lifetime and the benefits are myriad!
