Here's a chance to get to know one of your favorite HYNW Instructors!
Rachel took her first ever yoga class here at Hot Yoga NorthWest way back in 2013!
She knew then that this yoga was something special, but it just didn't stick.
We had no idea that 5 years later Rachel would make her way back to Hot Yoga NorthWest and soon become our first Studio Assistant! She's grown from committed student to passionate teacher, and we love that HYNW has been able to support this journey. One thing is for sure, she loves sharing this Yoga.

Tell us a little about your life outside the Studio.
I am a forever student, dog-mom, and wife! I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and love it here. My husband Matt, and I met working at Rebound Orthopedics in 2014 and have been inseparable ever since. We have two furbabies: a 3-lb Yorkie named Griffin, and a 65-lb Goldendoodle named Delilah - and they are our world. Outside of the Studio, I enjoy spending time outdoors (we are loving our back deck this year!), reading, watching documentaries + shows, baking, creating! I'm a huge foodie! I also spend a lot of time practicing and studying yoga, of course. I'm a total introvert and homebody and am learning to love that about myself.

Truly, I do not! Not even a little bit. I can see in my MINDBODY account that I took my first ever Original Hot Yoga class on 7/15/2013 at 6:30 PM AND that I even came back the next morning for my second class. Woohoo!
I do remember my first class back to Hot Yoga NorthWest after 5 years away, though! 4/30/18, Original Hot Yoga. Mica taught and it was during the 5-Year Anniversary Celebration. Gosh, I even remember the feeling of pure bliss! That class wasn't as hard as it should have been fore me (read: I wasn't good at hydration then), but it was like the yoga was welcoming me back with open arms. I didn't know it then, but I know now that that was the day I started my journey back Home.

What do you love most about teaching?
Witnessing my students experience YOGA! Seeing the faith, self-control, willpower, concentration, and patience play out during class is powerful and inspiring. Watching the change happen, and the seeing the JOY! It's an honor to be trusted to hold the space for the inner-work that happens when we step on our mat.
What inspired you to become a yoga teacher?
This practice changed my life in so many ways, there was no doubt that I had to share it! It was a deep down feeling, and it just felt right!
Please describe your 'Why Yoga?'
Yoga is my anchor.
It keeps me grounded. It supports every aspect of me.
Yoga is my anti-anxiety, my anti-depressant - my literal path to whole-body wellness.
It is the most pivotal piece of my wellness practice. I have healed chronic neck and shoulder pain, improved my gut health, my mental health, my physical health! I am more connected and conscious. I have found my faith + spirituality thanks to this Yoga, and credit it for so much personal growth!
What's the biggest benefit / obstacle you've experienced or overcome since practicing at HYNW?
The greatest gift my yoga practice has ever given me is the opportunity to be here now! To strengthen my connection to my Self, the Universe, and the present moment. Through my practice, I realized that I spend so much time disconnected and "in my own head" and have missed so much magic that happens in the NOW. This has allowed me to see that we are truly co-creators of our lives and there is no reason to give up that power. It's definitely a work-in-progress, but I feel so empowered by my practice!
What advice would you give a new student?
There are 2 rules for Yoga club:
1. Show Up
This yoga is for anyone and everyone, all you've gotta do is show up! It will meet you where you are at and carry you through mountains and valleys of expansion + contraction. Keep showing up on your mat, especially when you don't want to. Commit to YOU and trust the yoga! Drop-in and enjoy the ride!
Most importantly: HYDRATE!
Tell us why you love HYNW?
The Community! It's pure love and magic. You can feel it when you step foot in the Studio. It's unlike anything I've ever experienced. I have never felt more supported, accepted, and loved than I do at HYNW and I am so insanely grateful for this place and everything it represents.
I can't wait to see you in class - come change your life, one breath at a time!
